ALTON — On Monday, September 14, Southern Illinois University’s School of Dental Medicine hosted its 14th annual Give Kids a Smile Day at 2800 College Ave., Alton.
Organizers were expecting 200 children to participate, receiving about $50,000 of services on Monday. The dental services were provided by SIU SDM faculty, students and staff, as well as Lewis and Clark Community College dental assisting and dental hygiene faculty and students. Professionals and volunteers from the community also participated in the annual event.
Nationally, Give Kids A Smile Day is sponsored by the American Dental Association to provide free dental treatment for underserved children.
