The timing precluded Johnna Kinney from doing much to make the Lewis and Clark Community College volleyball roster more of her own as new head coach.
“Took over the first day of practice,” Kinney said of the move that brought her to L&C after 15 seasons across the river in Florissant, Mo.
The former Flo Valley – and then St. Louis Community College after consolidation – coach filled the vacancy left with the Trailblazers after Jim Hunstein left in June to take the volleyball job at Blackburn College in Carlinville.
Kinney inherited a roster of just 10 players, but scrapped plans for an emergency recruiting push after seeing her 10 Blazers in the gym.
