The Lewis and Clark Community College Trailblazers golf team got off to a good start by taking second place honors in the Lewis & Clark Spring Invite on March 24.
Competing teams were John A. Logan, Mineral Area College and Blackburn College. John A. Logan took first place with a 312 score. The Trailblazers nudged Mineral Area 320 to 321 to take the second place cup, with Blackburn College finishing fourth.
On a day of high winds and falling temperatures, scores were all over the place with the individual medalist score of 75, by John A. Logan’s Kody Rendlemann. L&C’s Joaquin Perez took the second place medal with a 76.
“In very brutal weather, we didn’t play our best, but played well enough to gain second place,” said L&C Coach Gerald Mozur. “We showed fortitude in battling the elements and character in not giving up. We will get better and this experience will help us down the road. I am proud of the team.”
On March 28-29, the Trailblazers played in the 36-hole Mineral Area College Winter Warm-Up Tournament, and placed second as a team with a score of 314. Hannibal-LaGrange University took home the top spot with a score of 310.
“We were in the lead after the first round, shooting 305 to Hannibal’s 308, but we stumbled in the second round and they scored six shots better,” Mozur said.
Joaquin Perez tied for medalist honors with a 76-75, adding up to a 151 score, but lost in a sudden-death playoff, placing fifth individually.
