GODFREY — Two double-overtime games in 24 hours did more than make the L&C men’s soccer team tired. The extra soccer clinched the regular-season Region 24 top seed and with it, home-field advantage through the postseason Region 24 Tournament.

L&C and Illinois Central battled through two overtimes Sunday at Tim Rooney Stadium and finished in a scoreless draw. The teams tied for first place in the region with 5-0-1 records, but the Trailblazers get the nod for the title based on goal differential during the season against Region 24 competition. Overall, L&C’s men are 10-2-1, while ICC is 9-3-1.

Sunday’s LC men’s game was the second of a doubleheader. In the first game, the L&C women edged Illinois Central 2-1 on a late goal by Boitumelo Rabale. The L&C women had already clinched home-field for their Region 24 Tournament, set to begin a week earlier than the men’s tourney. No. 6-ranked L&C finishes the regular season 14-2 overall and 8-0 in Region 24. ICC’s women are 7-5-2 and 6-2.
